ARBITRATION COURT.
(in TELEGRAPH.—OWN COEBESPONDENT). Auckland, Laat Night. The Arbitration Court, in the dispute between the Seamen's Union and employers, gave an award to the effect that an increase of 10s per month be given to lamp trimmers, able seamen, ordinary seamen, all firemen, greasers, trimmers and donkeymen, overtime to remain as at present : that when excursions are run on Sundays or stated holidays overtime be paid for the time so employed, not to exceed Bs, or be less than 4s ; that time off, when given in lieu of overtime, be equivalent in value to such overtime, and that time off be only given in Auckland or the ports where the men reside ; that the award is not binding upon Messrs Leyland and O'Brien so long as they continue to pay the same rate ot wages as at present, but they are to be bound by the award in the event of their ceasing to pay such wages. Wednesday, 2nd October is fixed as " Labour Day." The term of the award is from Ist February next to 18th Febiuary, 1899.
