The annual meeting of the subscribers of the above Library was held last evening, when the following balance-sheet was submitted for approval. It shows the institution to be in a sound and healthy condition, and reflects great credit upon the committee who have managed its affairs for the past year. Receipts.—Balance at January Ist, 1897, £1 17s lOd ; subscriptions, £63 0s Id ; donations for museum, £9 3i; proceeds of concert, £l3 13s ; donation per Mr G. E. Clark, sale ot Jubilee photos, £4 ; proceeds of dramatic entertainment, £3 2s ; sale of periodicals, £2 7s ; sale of waste paper, £2 3a 3d; sale of catalogues, £2 ss; discounts, £2 5s 9d ; total, £lO3 17s lid. Expendituke.—Purchases: New books, £l7 12s 6d ; periodicals and papers, £lO 15s Sd ; museum ca?es, £9 5s 6d ; furniture and altering library, £7 Is 91 ; insurance, £4 2s ; printing rules and catalogue, £9 ; repairing books, £2 03 Cd ; advertising and printing, £5 15s 8d ; now ledger, stationery, etc., £4 5s 9d ; light, firing and cleaning, £3 17s 101 ; stamps and freight, £2 2s 3d ; clerical assistance, £2 17s; Librarian's salary and commission, £23 12s 10d ; balance at date, £1 3s 8d; tola', £lO3 17s lid. The statement of assets and liabilities was as follows :—Assets: Outstanding subscriptions. £4 2s lid ; cash in bank, £1 3i 8d; 2400 books, £4OO : contents of museum. £3O; building, £160; furniture, £35-total, £630 16s 7d. The liabilities consisted of sundry accounts, amounting to £3 lis ; leaving a surplus of assets of £627 5s 7d.
