THE TRANSVAAL.
LIONEL PHILLIPS EXILED. Pretoria, January 10. The Transvaal Government has exiled Mr Lionel Phillips, of Johannesburg, one of the National Reform prisoners, who was released on condition that he refrained from taking any part in politics in the Transvaal. Mr Phillips broke the oath by discussing, in an article contributed by him to the Nineteenth Century, the state of politics in the Transvaal. Capetown, January 20. Mr Lionel Phillips explains that he promised not to interfere in Transvaal politics, but that such promise did not refer to literary discussions on its politics.
