FIRE AT CAMBRIDGE,
Shortly after 9 a.m. yesterday morning Mr J. S. Bond's residence in Victoriastreet, Cambridge, Mas destioycd by fire. Fortunately at the time the tire broke out several surfacemen were at work on the railway line immediately opposite, and they, together with Mrs MoGarry and Mr Dickinson, who were the fust to arrive, removing the furniture at once, and so energe ieally did they work that with the assistance of those who arrived from time to time the whole of the furn'turc was saved, and even many of the doors were unhung anil conveyed to safe quarters before they were damaged. The dweling was in two parts and contained tight rooms. The front building, facing the main road, was a good one, but the other, which stood about 10 feet to the rear, was a cottage that had bevn moved from Williamsstreet. It contained a kitchen and children's bedrooms, and it was in this that the fire Lroke out, The buildings are insured for £3OO in the Norwich Union, and the furniture for £IOO in the National. Mr Bond was away at Tc Aroha at the time the fire occur.cd.
