THE LATE MR GISBORNE.
Amongst the older colonists the death of Mr William Gisborne will be much regretted, as that of a man who has rendered good service to the colony, services extending over many ycr.rs, ami dating as far back as 18 IS. His death took place at Derby, the place of his birth. His name will go down to posterity as the writer of "New Zealand Rulers and Statesman," a task he was peculiarly fitted to undertake, as having been a permantnt official for many years he was brought intimately into contact with the men who occupied the political stage, aud in addition had a clear insight into the measures promoted by his political chiefs, and the opinions which dictated them. His hook had the effect of clearing away many popular delusions as to the characters and ability of the men who held political office from the earliest days to within a few years back.
