Dunedin, Last NifihN The Educational Icstituie voted £ls towards the payment of the expenses of Mr Ellis, schoolmaster at Auckland, who was fined for beating a pupil. The President stated that the executive would take further steps if they saw the opportunity. By 20 to 11 it was decided lo ask the Minister for Education to issue one te-mher's certificate in lieu of the present Bystcm of classification. By 17 to 14 the Conference declared in favour of an uniform system of pupil teachers' examination ; also that the sewing syllabus requires immediate revision.
