TROUBLE IN INDIA.
SIR 11. M. HAVELOCK ALDjfllfc. KILLED. Calcutta, December 31. Major-General Sir H. M. Havelock Allan, while riding through Kyber Pass on Wednesday, left his escort. His horse was subsequently found stripped and sbot nenr Fort AH Musjid. It is believed he was captured by the Zakka Kbels. Major-General Allan, who was without any official mission, went to the frontier with the view of obtaining information for use in Parliament. Ho had been visiting Zirnai Kolal.and on approaching Jamrud hurried forward, leaving the escort, his body is being sent to Peshawar. The telegraph wires at Kbyber Pass are being continually cut by the turbulent tribesmen. January 1. The Zakka Khels arc proving obdurate. Two of their villages have been burned, and 25 hill towers destroyed by the British forces. Sharp fighting has occurred at Khyber Pass. The tribesmen attacked a convoy, killing 20 and wounding 11 privates belonging to the Oxfordshire Light Infantry. Colonel F. H.Plowder and two officers of the same regiment were also wounded.
