TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Wo must congratulate you on your able leader of 11th inst. We must add here that we were approached b} the Colonial Refining Company aud pointed out to them before the report was published the great mistake and harm th"y have made in not acting frankly in co-operation with us and the district. In forming their opinion of course we know exactly what it means. We must express our regret that in mentioning the opinions of different experts, yon did not mention the tedious work performed formerly by Mr Lewenburg in tho district, at Home and the Continent in favour of the Waikato district, and the woik done afterwards in conjunction with Captain Haivey, also the able advocacy of Mr Graham. \our expressed opinion about the wisdom of the Club's action re pledge to our syndic.ite, is one-sided. \ oil arc not aware of the financial working of the establishment of such an industry ; in fact, we have, we are.and we will have a hard fight all round until the successful moment when the foundation stone of the first sugar-beet factory and refioery will be laid in Waikato. You have in us true, staunch friends, and it is a pity that yen treat them in inch a dishearten ing way, knowing well that we have expended money, work, time and years of hard and unproductive wcrk until the present momem. —We are, etc., Nicolas Lewenbero, Clnirman. A. L. Harvey, Secretaiy. Auckland, December 14. 1897.
