CAMBRIDGE BOROUGH COUNCIL
INSTALLATION OF MAYOR. Yesterday, at noon,, Mr Arthur Bach was ins: ailed Mayor of Cambridge for the third time. In addition to His Worship, there were present : Councillors Arnold, Escott, Clark, Simpson and Wright, and Cr. Howe sent an apology. After having made the usual declaration as Mayor, Mr Bach thanked those present for the manner in which they had supported him during the past year, and trusted that during that furthcoming the same cordial relations would exist amongst the members of the Connoil. He said the financial position of the Borough was not as good as he would have liked to have seen it, the overdraft being about £IOO, but it was nevertheless sound and ere his term expired he hoped and believed it would be extinguished. They had no very b'g works on hands, and he thought they would have sufficient revenue to keep their streets in good oider.extinguish the overdraft and perhaps cany out a portion of the drainage scheme. During the year there had been jubilee celebrations all over the world, ami of course Cambridge had done its quota towards commemorating the record reign of Her Majesty. The work was still in hand, but when it was finished he thought the ratepayers would not grumble at the sum the Council had voted to subsidise the liberal subscriptions of the inhabitants. He said he should strive to keep down the expenditure during the forthcoming year and after expressing thanks to the Council and ratepayers for their continued confidence in him, as demonstrated by electing him without opposition for the third time, he resumed his seat in the civic chair.
Councillors Esootl, Simpson and Clink congratulated His Worship on his again being installed mayor of the borough. They spoke in eulogistic terms of the manner in which he had conducted the business, and assured him of support during his further term. The meeting then terminated, and the Councillors accepted the invitation of His Worship to adjourn to the National Hotel, where they quaffed success to him in Moet and Chandon.
