HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL

The Hamilton Borough Council met for the last time this year at the Council Chambers yesterday afternoon. There wete present: Mr W. Dey (Mayor-elect), Crs Salmon, C. Tippin, W. Jones, T. Slade, R. J. Gwynne, S. Davis and H. Tristram. INSTALLATION OF MAYOR. Cr. Tippin was voted to the chair. The Clerk read the official declaration of Mr Wm. Dey's election as Mayor of Hamilton, and he was duly presented by Crs. Gwynna and Tristram. The Chairman congratulated Mr Dey upon being returned as Mayor for the, fifth time, and spoke highly of the manner in which he had discharged his duties in the past. In reply, the Mayor thanked the burgesses for the compliment they had paid him iu again electing him to the position. He hoped that the good feeling which had previously existed between the Councillors and himself would long coutinue. He fell sure they would all do their best for the prosperity of the district and the good of the burgesses. ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary business meeting wps then procieded with. Lands for Lease.—Mr H. Howden's application that Lots 366 and 368, Hamilton West, should be put up for lease, was referred to the Endowment Committee, with power to act. Works Committee Report. —The report of the Work Committee recommending several small improvements, and urging that some action should be taken to prevent rubbish being swept into the watertables.and to have the furze cleared from various frontages, was read and adopted. I'oundkeeper's Report.—The Poundkeeper's report showing the number of animals itnpouuded during last month, and enclosing the receipts amounting to £5 14s, was adopted. Accounts. —Accouuts as follows were passed for paymeut :- J. Ridler, 12s 6d ; W. Kel'y, 4s; Gas Company, £5 8s; Jos. Frear, £2 19s 6d ;J. Knox, 15s ; J. Devitt, £2 lls6d. Tenders.—The following tenders were received for various snpplks :—Dog collars : M. A. Goiug : Collars, 6|rd ; replating, 2d (accepted). Carting : Wm. Kelly, one horse dray and man, 9s day ; half day, 4s 6d ; -J- day, 2s 6d ; odd lead, Is. Two horses, 10s ; A day, 5s ; i day, 2s Cd ; odd load, Is. J. Ridlcr's tender was exactly the same, and on the motion of Cr. Tippin, seconded by Cr. Slade, it was accepted. Gravel :R. Waite, 11 Ad from any pit ; T. Jones : Lot S, Is 2J : Lot 11 Is 4d ; Lots 43 and 45, lid ; Lot 117, Is 4d ; Lots 23 and 24, is. R. YVaite's tender was accepted. Dog Registrar : Mr Jas. Devitt was re-ap-pointed to this posi'ion as the same rate of remuneration as formerly. Endowment Inspector : Mr J. Knox was reappointed at the same salary as before. Holidays.—Leave of absuice was granted to the Foreman of Works from the 24th December to the 3rd January. Notice of Motion.—Cr. Tristram moved the following resolution in accordance with notice of motion given : " That resolution No. 3 of July lGih, 1895, be rescinded, and in lieu thereof all the lamp 3 in the borough be not lighted for six months during the summer months, with the exception of those from Slade's corner at Grey and Bridgestreets to the ccrusr of Tisdule and Rich-mond-streets, and one at the Hood and Anglesea-strcets, from November Ist to April 30th."--The motion lapsed for want of a seconder.

DOMAIN HOAKD. The Domain Board met immediately afterwards, the same members being present.

Fence Across Street.—Mr R. Hines reported tint Mr P. Peterson had fenced across the street between Lots 45 and 46, Hamilton East, which was his only entrance to section 4G —This matter was left over until the next meeting. Rents. —Cr. Tippin spoke strongly upon the large amount of arrears of rents outstanding, and proposed that the Endowment Committee thould go through the list of leases and re enter upon all those lands upon which the rent is in arrears, and again put them up for auction.—Cr. Jones seconded the motion, which was carried. This was all the business.
