MR W. J. HUNTER'S HORSE SALE. Mr W. J. Hunter reports : Of the 300 horses offered at the Hamilton Yards yesterday and to-day, over 200, pf which 109 were unreserved, were sold. Ine best Felling horses were draught and waggon Borts, for which there was good competition and the demand was unsatisfied. Poor hacks and ponies were dull oi sale. The prices were : Draughts, £l2 to tZI J no heavy horses were in ; waggon and plough sorts, for which there was good demand, £l2 to £l6 : well bred hacks, right sorts wanted, £8 to £l4 ; ponies and weeds, from £1 to £3.
AUCKLAND MARKETS. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited), report :—Auckland Wool Stores, Wednesday.—At our weekly sale of hides and skins on Tuesday we offered a large catalogue. Hides remain at about last week's values, with a slight tendency to weakness in ox lv'des. We sold prune stout ox at s£d to 5Jd ; heavy stout, 4jd to 5d ; light and medium, 3£d to 4d ; cow, 3fd to 3§d ; kip, 3*d to MA ; calf, sound, 4Jd to 5Jd ; cut, 2fd to 3|d. Sheepskins : Large iongwools, 4s 6d to 5s ; country, dry, in sound condition, 4*d to 5d lb. Pelts : Salted, lid to Is Id ; dry, 6d to 9d ; lambs, Is 2d _to la 7(1. Bones are worth £3 53 to £3 7s 6d. Hair and horns are selling at late rates. Tallow, lis to 12s 9d ; picked, for tanners' use, to 14s 9d. Wool : Since List report we have disposed privately of several lots passed in at our sale on lst instant, at par to jd per lb. advance on saleroom prices. Oats : Market is still firm and advancing, present price being equal to 2s 2d on the wharf. Chaff : Quotations from the South are firm at about £4 12s 6d, c.i.f., sacks in, but the quantity of local now offering prevents this beiDg bought at a profit. Best locsd is offering at £4 to £4 53, sacks extra at railway. Messrs Alfred Buckland and boNs Weekly Report.—At the Hay market straw continues in steady demand, at late values. Oaten and meadow hay at lower values. Best bonedust, 5s per ton lower in price. Maize : Better worth, is bringing 2s 2d on the wharf. On Friday horses, yarded numerously, were at lower values, particularly those of second-class' quality : Strong draught ranged from £lO 10s to £22 ; with spring cart trial, £4 to £lO each. At Wainku, on Saturday, the yards were filled, a great proportion steers of good quality, from two to three years old, and a large number of calves. Bidding was brisk throughout the sale. Hides have been offered in usual number, and insteady demaud at improved values. Ox hides hove ranged from 3|d to 4gcl, cow hides 3d to 3Jd, calfskins 4d to 5d the lb, tails Is 4(1 the dozen, rough fat Id the lb, tallow lis 6d to 128 9i the cwt. Sheepskins have fully kept their values. Longwooled skins have brought from 4s to 6a, pelts 9d to Id, lambskins Is 2d to Is Sd each. On Wednesday 250 lots of bags and dumps of wool sold freely, bringing, for fleece wool, 5M to 6Jd, broken pieces up to locks and pieces 2d to 4d the lb. At Rsmncra, on Thursday, dairy cows fairly represented were at late values. Prices for those sold were from £3 7s 6d to £5 15s each ; store cattle at late values. Calves numerous, 78 sold, were without alteration in value. Fat cattle in full number, above 300 yarded, were at lower values. Prices for steers were from 14s to 16s the 1001 b, but the greater number at 15s, which would average the market. Cows from lis to 13s. Prices for steers were from £4 10s to £7 12s 6d ; cows, £2 15s to £5 10s each. Sheep in usual supply, 1300 yarded, of those a fourth stores; values similar to last week. Wethers brought irom 5s 9d to 8s 9d ; ewes, 5s 6d to 8s 6d each. Lambs plentiful, 450 sold. Well-grown lambs were from 6s to 9s 3d ; inferior, Is 6.1 to 4s each. Pigs in full supply, 116 penned, mostly stores, well-grown and wellbred. Prices were lower than for many weeks, and were from 14s to 18s each.
