NEWCASTLE ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the above Board was held at the office, Ohote, on Wednesday. Present: Messrs Corboy (chairman), Clow, Fullertou, Kelly and Shepherd. Te Kowhai Road. —A letter was received from Mr Spraeg, in response to the Board's application for a piece of land for road purposes near the Te Kowhai creamery, to the effect that he was willing to give the land, but as the deeds were in England he would sign an agreement, so that the road work could be gone on with in the meantime. Infectious Disease.—Respecting the late infectious disease in Mr Ferguson's family, of which the Board had received statutory notice from Dr. Kenny, the Chairman stated the steps he had taken, and that the report on the matter, which appeared in The Waikato Akods, was a full and correct one.—This was read and adopted. Fcrze. —Capt. Steele wrote that he had completed arrangements for having the furze cleared on the frontage of hjs sections on Bonfrey's Hill Road, and in further connection with this question the chairman was authorised to make arrangements for getting the furze cleared, at the expense of the landowners, from other sections along the road. Tender.—Re formation on the above road, the Chairman reported that Mr H. Booth had thrown up his contract, and Mr Thos. Jones (the next tenderer) had taken it over at the prices named in his tender.—The Chairman's action was confirmed. Rates.—Mr J. B. Lane notified the Board that Mr Geach would pay the rates due on Lots 1 to 3, Whatawhata. Thirds.—The Receiver of Land Revenue notified the payment of £lO 14s 4d to the Board's credit on account of thirds, and it was decided to call tenders for the road works contained in the scheme ; tenders to be in by next meeting of the Board. Application tor Cutting.—Mr Ed. Exelby applied for some road cuttings near his farm at Rotokauri.—lt was pointed out that, no dcubt, though inadvertence, Mr Exelby had been piying his rates to the Hamilton Board, though his land was in Newcastle, and it was decided to inform Mr Exelby that, when his rates were paid up to the Newcastle Board, the application would be considered. Baefobd's Hill.—Re proposed road deviation at Barford's Hill, this matter was discussed at length, being finally left in the hands of Mr Clow. Kabakabiki Road. The Chairman recommended that some small cuttings be made on the Karakariki Road, at a cost of not exseeding £3.—This was agreed to. Rotokauri Road. Mr Fullerton brought up the necessity for improving a bad place on the Rotokauri road, a set of pipes and some earthwork being required.—lt was decided to do the work, a load of pipes to be obtained at the same time for various places on this road. Story's Road.—lt was decided to have three days' work with man, horae and dray done on this road. Pukete Station Road.—Mr Clow was authorised to have about 20 loads of gravel put on the worst places. Advertising. —ln accordance with notice of motion, Mr Clow moved that tenders be called for advertising, in place cf the present arrangement of dividing it between tin two papers.—A long discussion took place, the matter being finally held over until the end of the fiuaucial year. Finance. —Accounts were passed as follows:—H. Booth, £l7 13s; J. Was- ~tfg tarn, 17s 6d ; F. Libeau, 5s ; M. Fitzgerald, 15s ; W. McCutchcon, £3 6s 3d ; C. Frodsham, 12s ; Jos. Charleston, Ben., £1 ; W. Jones, 5s ; A. F. Wilcock, £4, Is 5d ; Joseph Radford, £l2; petty cash, £l.
