AUCKLAND AMATEUR ATHLETIC CARNIVAL.

On .Saturday about 6000 people assembled in the Domain cricket ground to witness the carrying out of the programme. The following are the results :

The finish ia thus described : Dexter, who had been working his way through the field in good style, had got into third place, close up to the leading pair. Filtering upon the final circuit he fastened on to Coatcs' wheel, and contended himself with hanging there until he reached the bend, where he commenced to spurt. But he had counted without his host, and the Waikato man responding gamely to the challenge, the greatest struggle of the day was witnessed, the pair crossing the line, the judge deciding in favour of Dexter by a couple of inches. If possible the interest and excitement was more intense as the champions came forth to measure .strides over the three-mile distance. Three Mile Bicycle Handicap.—ll. A. Coatee (200yds.), 1 ; C. Jenkins, (250 yds), 2 ; J. Cro/.ier (100yds), :!. Cuckscy and Jenkins, who enjoyed long starts, alternated the running for the first mile and a-half, where the Waikato rider, Coales, rode into the lead, Jenkins hanging to his wheel, while Cuckscy fell away. At the cud of two miles Coatcs and Jenkins were still in the same positions, with Cro/.ier in third place," the order maintaining throughout the remainder of the distance, C'.ates winning by the best pare of a couple of wheel's from Jenkins, Ciozier, some distance tvway, third.
