CONCERT AT THE HOSPITAL

Dr. Kfxsy, the surgeon-superintendent of the Waikato Hospital, organised a concert, which was given on Wednesday night. The orchestra, which was constituted as follows : Miss Wright (piano), MrT. 11. While (Ist violin), Miss Le Quesne (2nd violin), Mr John Edgecombe (cello), Dr. Kenny (basso), rendered several selections during the evening ill a most acceptable manner. A song, "Island of Dreams," by Miss Le Quesne, was very sweetly sung, but on account of a very bad cold she was unable to respond to the rapturous encore which followed. Bouquets of (lowers from patients, nurses and visitors were, thrown to her, which she acknowledged by gracefully bowing. A song by Dr. O. Kenny, "Queen of the Earth," was also heartily applauded, and most deservedly so. The entertainment was brought to a close by the orchestra placing the first part of the National Anthem, the audience singing. Major Minnett, an old veteran and a patient in the hospital, on behalf of the patients thanked the performers for their kindness in providing them with such a nice evening's amusement. Three hearty cheers were given for the performers, with an additional one for the noes, to whose efforts Wire due the admirable arrangements made for the convenience and comfort of all concerned. Or. Kenny acknowledged the same, and thus ended a most pleasant and enjoyable evening.
