HAMILTON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
In spite of the most unfavourable season, the committee have succeeded in .securing a very large number of entries for the show, to be held in the Volunteer Hall on Wednesday next. Many entries have been promised from Auckland and various parts of the Waikato, and these, added to the produce of the gardens in the immediate neighbourhood of Hamilton, will enable, the committee to stage one of the finest exhibitions .if flowers ever seen in the district. We would remind exhibitors that to-day is the last day for making entries, which must be lodged with the Hon. Secretary, Mr A. Swarbrick. As already announced, there will be no charge made for exhibits in the classes reserved for children. And with regard to children's bouquets, all that the compctitois have to do is to attend at the Volunteer Kail any time between 3 and 6 p.m. on Tuesday and bring with them the flowers and materials, and a member of the committee will be in attendance to supervise the making of the bouquets and take charge of the same when completed. No other entry and no payment is required in this class.
Mr I). Hay, of Auckland, wilt act as judge of cut flowers and pot plants, and two ladies from Cambridge and Auckland have kindly promised to judge the floral arrangements of all kinds. The ladies of the committee will provide afternoon tea at a small charge in aid of the funds of the society, and this will doubtlessly be much appreciated by visitors from a distance.
There will be a promenade concert of instrumental music in the afternoon and again in the evening. The society has secured the sei vices of an exceedingly strong committee who are working energetically to secure sue cess, and there can be no doubt but that the show will be one of the most beautiful nnd interesting displays ever seen in the Waikato.
We have been requested to point out that exhibitors can send in plants or flowers not included iu the schedule, and if the judges consider them of sufficient merit certificates will be awarded.
The show will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and again from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. All exhibits must be staged by 10 a.m., except tho?e from up-country stations, which will be received after the arrival of the morning train.
