CARLE SUMMARY.

The warship l'ort Arthur, commissioned to replace the Orlando on the Australian station, sails to-day (Thursday). On her trial trip she did eighteen knots an hour. The German East African fleet has been ordered to .Shantung, in the Gulf of Pechili, on the coa=t of China, to redress the murder some time ago of missionaries belonging to the German Mission.

The amount of subsidy to be paid by the Canadian Government to the Beaver line for the weekly mail service between Canada and Liverpool i.s 146,000 dollars per annum. The Allan Steamship line intend to provide a fortnightly service, calling at St. Johns, New Brunswick, with London and Ontario as the winter ports.
