CONCERT AT TAUPIRI.

A vkjiy enjoyable entertainment was given on Wednesday, 10th inst., to the residents of the district by the amateur element of the neighbourhood. The programme provided was rather of an elaborate description, and had it not been so boisterous a night, which caused the absence of several would-be assistants, the a (lair would have passed off more satisfactorily to all concerned. Still, notwithstanding these disadvantages, a large ami appreciative audience showed by their frequent applause their thorough enjoyment of the efforts of the performers, which consisted of Mesdames White and Melling, the Misses Bryne, Cox, P.iterson, Butcher ('2), Messrs Cox, Walls, Snelling anil Lloyd, anil the Rev. Mr Bradbury. The liist and second parts were each commenced and terminated by a plantation song, being respectively " Who Did," " Bat's Berry Queer," " But It Is So," and " Good Night," each and all of which were rendered in a manner which showed careful study and practice. Gf course, it goes without saying that our popular local amateur, Mr Lloyd, as usual gave lite, soul, vigour am! /.est to the concert, and it is rare to find among amateurs, and it may be added professional performers, such fullness of humour, serio-comic pathos and vocal ability, with a total absence of vulgarity. Mr Lloyd also favoured the audience with two character songs, the. " g..t up" in each case being unique, and upon each occasion vociferous encores compelled either repetition or other pieces. The remaining pieces, each of which were nicely rendered and encored, were :—Duet, ''What are the Wild Waves Saying," Mrs White and Miss Byrne ; songs, " The Bugler," Mr Bradbury ; " The Cry of the Little Children," Miss Butcher; "Don't Tell Mother," Mr Pdtcrson ; "Jenny," Miss Butcher; trio, " Fan Song," in character, by Miss Butcher and the Misses Patcrson (2) ; recitation, Mr T. Wells; song, " Daddy," Miss I'at.erson ; humorous sketches by Mr Bradbury. The entertainment was brought to a termination by the company and audience singing " God Save the Queen." The proceeds of the concert, amounting to a net protit of about £O, arc to be devoted to the liquidation of the debt incurred in enlarging' the Anglican Church. Messrs K. B. Cox, T. 11. White and Lloyd were the general managers of the concert. Mrs Cox and the Misses Gillespie, Cox ami I'aterson presided at the piano, and played the accompaniments.—(Own Correspondent).
