STRIKERS SHOT DOWN.
New York, September 11. A CROWD of miners on stiike at Colcraine, an important coalmining centre in Pennsylvania, approached the colliery unarmed with the object of inducing the men who hhd taken their places to abandon work.
The Sheriff ordered them to disperse, and on their failing to comply be read the Piot Act.
The leaders of the strikers expostulated, and the. Sheriff thereupon ordered his officers to fire at close range.
They poured a volley into the massed ranks of the strikers, killing twenty-two and wounding seventy-
The men on stiike were mostly foreigners, unacquainted with tbe English language
