NGARUAWAHIA.

Mr Vailk's Lectori-:.—A meeting of the residents of Ngaruawahia was convened for the evening of Tuesday, the 7th inst, to hear Mr Vaile's lecture on his '• Railway System." Some thirty or forty persons were present, but as the lecturer di'3 not put in an appearance, tit about quarter to nine the meeting dispersed somewhat disappointed. Mr Vaile's presence, however, in the township the following afternoon showed that there had been some mistake, and when it was generally made known that lie would give his lecture that evening a fair audience turned up. Mr Latham occupied the chair and briefly introduced the speaker. The lecturer, on 20mmeucing, apologised for the mistake re date ot meeting, stating he was not altogether to blame for it. The gist of his lecture has already been repotted in the columns of The ARGOS. At the conclusion several questions were asked and were answered more or less satisfactorily. Mr Vailc appeared to carry with him his audience, who were of the opinion that his system should receive a trial.

School Concert. — f lhe annual concert in aid of the funds of the School Committee was held in the Town Hall on Friday, the 10th imt. There was a large attendance. Owing to the indisposition of Mr Davies the second part of the programme, which was a dramatic performance, was not forthcoming and songs had to lie substituted. The programme WAi as follows : Violin and pianoforte duet, Misses Wilson and Davies ; song, "The Sleeping Jump," Mr Snelling; song (comic), " At My Time of Life," Mr Lloyd (encored) : song, " Remember Me No More,'' Miss Troughear ; song, " Who Shall Be King," Mr Williams; song, " Listening," Mis Davies ; song. " A Thing He Had Never Done Before," Mr A. J. S nimelhag (encored); recitation, " The Amateur Rider," Mr Wells ; song, " When You and 1 Were Young, Maggie," Mr Goodwin. This concluded the lirst part. After an interval of five minutes the second part commenced with a song, " The Chorister," by Mr Bradbury ; song, " Bid Me To Love," Miss V.vmc ; song, " .Jack's Yarn," Mr Williams ; song, " The Two Nightingales," Miss Butcher ; recitation, " How Bil! Adams Won the Battle of Waterloo," Mr Wells ; song, " Norah, My Village Queen," Mr Goodwin ; song, " Nancy," Miss Troughear ; song, '" The Valiant Knight." Mr Snelling ; song. " The Dandy Coloured Coon," Mr Lloyd. If the programme was somewhat short, it certainly could not be said to be lacking in quality. The feature of the evening were the songs by Mr Lloyd, who is a new arrival in the district. After the conclusion of the concert the hall was eharerLifa - a dance, which was kept up till the siiiall hours of the morning.— (Own Correspondent).
