Fahkwku,.—The farewell entertainment given to Miss Maud Archer took place in the Town Hall on Thursday evening last There was a very large atteudance, many present coming from Raiigiaohia, Te Rahu, Kihikih', Faterangi and Pirongia, which speaks well for the young lady's popularity in the district. Mr C. L. f ong presided, and the affair went off without a hitch. The programme consisted of the following items : Overture hy the orohestri ; song, ■' Mona," Mr Tong, was very successful,, and was called upon for an encore ; song, " Kerry Dane?," by our old favourite, Miss Allan, which took immensely ; song, " Home, Dearie, Home," Mts Singleton ; very sweetly rendered and loudly applauded. " Spanish Cacbuca." This item was performed by children, and was one of the best, on the programme. Song, " Queen of the Earth," .Vlr G. Bowden ; well sung and applauded. Violin solo by Miss Daisy Bowden. This was thought the gem of the evening, and great things are looked for from this young lady in the future. Recitation, " The Amateur Rider," Mr S. Lewis. Sam was in his best form, and looked well in his jockey turn-out, and was loudly applauded. Our comic man, Mr Vause, was greeted with roars of laughter, and sang " I'm Rather Too Old For That Now," and quite brout'ht d"WU the house. Tableau, " Chenkmatc" ; song, Mr Fell; song, "The Wicket Gate," Mr Tong ; song, " Island Dreams," Mrs Singleton ; Japanese fan dance, performed by children ; tableau, " Maggie's Dream." At the close of the concert the hall was e'eared and dancing kept up till about L. 30 a.m. A word of praise is due to both Mcsdames Long and Andrew for their untiring efforts to make the allair a success, and which they did without a doubt. Fikes.—An eight-roomed cottage belonging to Mrs H. Lewis was totally destroyed by lire on Saturday morning last at about 11 o'clock. The dwelling has bteu unoccupied tor some six weeks, and was only recently painted and repaired. How the fire originated is not known. The insurance was ,£3"23 in the Commercial Union oflice.—On the night previous an unoccupied cottage, situated on the Mission property and known as Morris', was also destroyed by fire, the origin of which is not yet" known. Town Board. —The usual monthly meeting of the Town Board was held in their oflice on Thursd ly evening last. There were present: Messrs J. L. Manduo, (100. Ahier, F. Gibson, J. Teasdilo and V. Lynch. A letter was received from the ciretnkcr of the hall stating that he could no longer do the work at the present figure, and asked for a rise. After soiir3 discussion it was decided to call for tenders for the position. The repairs required doing to the town pump were left in the hands of Mr Lynch to see to.
