TE AROHA NOTES.

[By Tue Porcupine].

The Rev. Joseph Campbell arrived in Auckland from Sydney on Monday, 12th inst., and is expected to come on to Te Aroha with his hyperphoric plant before the end of the present week. Mr Campbell applied for a residence site in the township at the last sitting of the Warden's Court, which looks like business.

The air compressors and the Pelton wheel are being put in position near the mouth of the big tunnel, Waiorongomai. The contractors in the latter are driving through a better class of country just now, and several nice looking stringers have recently been met with.

The crosscut drive on the Cadman property is making good headway, the country passed through being very favourable looking sandstone and quartz veins. No information is available as yet regarding the value of the reefs intersected.

Mr Vickcrman, the Government Engineer, arrived in Te Aroha on Monday, with a view of laying out the Domain Grounds. The excavating for the new private bath house has been commenced, and it really looks as if the necessary improvement works arc being undertaken in earnest.

On Saturday afternoon a running match, 100 yards, for £5 aside, was held in Muicahy's paddock, Waiorongomai, between the two local " deerfoots," S. Hamilton aud H. Beeson. The latter got away smartly, and won somewhat easi'y. Messrs Jacksou and Donovan acted as judges, and Mr Albert Edwards as starter. There was a good sprinkling of people on the ground, aud both competitors were warmly supported. Mr Stanley Brown, who is staying at Park House, is recovering from the effects of his recent accident, and is now able to sit up for a w tile during the day. He is receiving every care and attention.

The T.R.V. minstrels are making ac'.ive preparations for their show to be held on the sth Augii3t. New soßgs and new jokes are promised, which ought to make the entertainment a success.
