_ 4) Imx'ROV'kmkxts.—The appearance of the Bank of New Zealand premises here has been vciy much improved by some slight repairs and rc-paiiiting of the building, and by the. civeiion of new femes, which were destroyed by the late fire at the Commercial Motel. It was with great difficulty that the bank building was saved fiom the flames at (hat time, am! those individuals who worked so hard on that occasion have, I hear, all received a guinea for their set vices. Mr C. T. Rickit, our local contractor, has had the improvements to do, ami a word of praise is due to him for the ma'her in which he has finished his job. Penny Readings.—The Librarj Committee having arranged to resume these meetings for the winter season, the first meeting will be held in the reading-room on Tuesday evening next, the 18th inst. The programme is in the hands of Mr Vause, and there is every probability of tliL' meetings being as popular and successful this season as they were last.

The Diamond Jubilee. -I understand preparations are being made to celebrate this important event in Te Awamutu by holding a monster entertainment in our Public Mall on the eveuing of the 22ud June, in aid of the funds of the library. The programme is, I Lclicrc, to include some novelties, amongst which will probably be a display of fireworks. Fu'l paiticuUirs will no doubt be ina'e known in good time. Vaccination.—The locil reg : strar of births has requested me to intimate to parents and others concerned that the requirements of the law re co.npulsoy vaccination are to he strictly enforced. Pinal notices have been sent out to those parents who are still ill default, and in easts where this lias not the tlesiietl result proceedings may be taken without further notice.
