WAIHI NOTES.

[By The Oiumian]

The Mission Hall was occupied last Wednesday night by a Prophet by the name of Rimmerwho adduced prophecies and Bible lore to prove that the end of the world is to take place in eighteen month's time. His arguments in favour of his views were to the point, and he made out a very nice little story. But dining the fifty years I have travelled this world I have heard sc many similar yarns that I become a little sceptical regarding the data worked up to make numbers and dates, tally whenever nations go to war or different portions of the earth, is desolated with plagues, storms, earthquakes, etc., and so on. The shooting season is now with us, and all sorts and conditions of men are to be seen roaming the bush and plains in pursuit of pigeons and pheasants, but I have only heard of one decent bag being made. One man last Sunday obtained 17 pigeons. Mrs Tanner has a staff of carpenters engaged pulling out the b:ick of her hall preparatory to making considerable additions, so there will be more sitting accommodation and a larger and better arranged stage. I notice several of our local shopkeepers have been painting, eularging and improving the fronts and windows of their several establishments, " Advance Waihi" is their motto, although most of them complain that business is not as good as it used to be. To-morrow night an entertainment takes place at the Mission Hull, when an effort is tj be made to realise a re spectablc collection, to be devoted to the sufferers by the floods at Hawke's Bay. May it be a good one.
