RAGLAN MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Monday. (Before Captain Jackson, S.M.) SLV-GKOO SELLING.
Tin: following natives pleaded guilty to unlawfully selling intoxicating liquors : —Katahi, Rewi Wetine, Tai, Taui Wetere, Itawhiti, Rangi Ka nana. The Bench in giving judgment, told the Maoris that the less they had to do with drink the better it would be for them, their wives and children and their race. A fine ot £5 and 17s costs was i nposed in each case. .John Patterson, a Europe n, also charged with grog-selling, was then called but did not appear. The Magistrate said a letter had been received to the eflcet that he was too ill to attend and pleaded guilty, and asked that the case, should be dealt with in his absence. The evidence of John Cage, a half caste, was taken, who tlept sed to purchasing liquor from accused. lie was lined C 7 and costs L'2 J7s (id, The liquor found in the possession of the convicted men was confiscated, and will be sold by auction.
