FIRE AT NGARUAWAHIA
A HOOT noon on Saturday, news reached here that a house occupied by two old residents, Mr and Mrs Stockton, was de Stl'jyed by lire. The tire originated in the wooden chimney and spread very rapidly, and had it not been for the plucky conduct of Mr .Joseph Clayton, wi uld" very probably have resulted fata'ly as regards Mrs Stockton. When he arrived on the scene he found the old lady in ths burning building, trying to get out a box, and Mr Stockton was away at the t ; mo. Without hesitation he utshed in and dragged the old lady from the binning bni'ding Mr Stockton's effects were miinsiite 1, so that lie is a loser to the fuel value of all his effects. Gtvat sympathy is expressed for the old couple, which, no doubt, will assume a praelieil form at the hands of the good hear ed Ngaruawuhia people.—(A Correspondent ).
