WRECKS ON THE COAST.
SEVERAL IJVRB LOST
(111 TKLEQRAriI.— OWN CORRESPONDENT). \YISLINGTON, Last Night. Tun ship Zulieka, bouud from Dunedin to Wellington, was wrecked 0:1 Friday night about four miles west ot 'Jape Pnllisor.
Nine bodies have boon picked up 011 the bcaeh. The Indies recovered are those of the first mate, steward, two apprentices and live teamen. Thee are three men still missing. The captain, second and third mates and seven men were saved.
The vessel is reported as comp'ctely broken up and the bcaeh is strewn with wreckage. The captain left overland for Wellington this morning. The Znlieka was a liritish ship of 101)2 tons, commanded by Captain Hremncr. She recently arrived at Port Chandirs from New York, and having discharged part of the cargo there left for Wellington.
The steamer Anglian, which arrived at GisborDC on Tuesday, brought the shipi\ recked crew of the scow Pirate, bound from Newcastle to Gisborno. The vessel encountered very heavy weather, had her cabin stove in, tank and galley cankd away. Captain Steimhack attempted to get her under the lee ot the Mahia Peninula. It was foggy at the time, and she was unable to work off the "land and eventually struck heavily on Portland Island and the crew took to the rigg'llg. Just as the crew were leaving a German seaman, mined Karl Birner, dropped dead upon the deck, an inqu'St win lield and lie was buried on the island, lit art disease is the supposed cause of death The mate had his leg injured and the cook his shoulder d'sloeated. The vessel is a total wreck.
