FOOTBALL.

Tub first match of the season was played on Sydney Square, Hamilton, on Saturday last between the Hamilton East and West Schools, the former proviug victorious by 9 points (three tries) to nil. The game was played in two spells of lialf-an-lit'ur each, and was hotly sontested by both sides, and caused no end of amusement to the spectators. Mr Chas. Speirdit acted as referee, and did everything in his power to teach the boys the rules of the game. Tries were obtained for the Fast side by T. Kelly, ti Forbes, and H. Tristram, but the kicks at goal were a failure. The most noticeable for the East boys were Forbes (fullback), Holloway, Tiistram, Hope, Kelly and Callaghan, and for the West side Hill, L. O'Nei 1, Stokes, Deverey, Kirk and Mod land. A return match wi.l be played in about a fortnight.

A meeting of the Hamilton Football Club was held at the Royal Hotel, Hamilton, en Saturday evening last. There was a good attendance. It was decided to form a team and join the Union with the various other clubs. The following members kuvc signilicd their intention of playinn this .season : —Hunt, Johnson (_»), Roberts,*!, Jseere, Evans(2), IJlaek, Kirk, Cage. J. Gillett, Quick, Kwen, Care, Speight, Peacock, Hyde, Dodd, Jack, limes, Harwood, Ryan, Williamson, Livingstone and Harrington. With such a combination as the above to choose from, Hamilton will no doubt be able to place a fifteen in the held that will take a lot of beating in Wdikato. Next Saturday afternoon the first practice match of the season wilt he held on Sydney Square, and all footbailers arc requested to roll up and get into form for the coming season. A mectiii" will be held on the ground the same day to elect the various officers, etc., ■mil any other business that may be brought forward.
