LAWN TENNIS.

On Saturday last the matches between the West End and Hamilton Clubs wore played on the local court, and resulted in a win for the Auckland t lub by 10 sets to G, or 05 games to G2. The eoillts could not have been in better order, and played splendidly. Seeing that the West Knd is the second best club in Auckland and has a selection of 00 to 70 members, wc think the losal club did vciy well. However, it was quite evident that the city "reps" intended hiving " util " for previous defeats in Hamilton. Of the Auckland gent 1: men Messrs Brabant anil Patterson arc the best two. Mr Btabant plays a really finished game, his placing ami returns being very effective. Mr Patterson's best point is Irs hard volleying, which was simply unplayable. At times Mr von Stunner with his " lobbing " tied up these two players, anil if five instead of three sets had been played the results ne'ght have been different. Messrs Ooldie and Uooke played capitally and won their sets comfortably. All the Auckland ladies played witli good judgment and brilliantly. Mrs Ncwcli and Miss Caldwell had a hard struggle with the Misses Hume and A. Jolly," winning the last set by 7 games to 5. The Hamilton ladies played pluckily, and when Misses Ncwcli and A. Sandes won their second set by G games to 0. hopes ran high that Hamilton would score in one match, but the Auckland ladies—Misses Butters and Whitelaw—were not to be denied, and won the next set by G to 3. During the afternoon theie was a continuous stream of visitors to the court, who received every atten tion from the ladies of the club, Mrs ,). Hume presiding.
