KIHIKIHi
IiuRULAEY.—On Friday night last Kihikilii indulged in the unusual excitement here of a rather daring, and to one of our residents, a startling burglary. The general store of Mr C. Ellis was entered at about midnight by sonic enterprising individual who evidently knew the run of the building. Mrs Ellis who, with the exception of a lady- help, was alone in the house. Mr Ellis being away on a visit in the RaDgitikei district, heard an entrance being made, and being unable to give any alarm, wisely decided not to interfere. A small sum of money iii silver was taken from the till, and some articles of apparel were also missing the next morning. The iron safe containing the principal cash, etc., was not interfered with. The intruder got in by smashing a small window sash of four panes in a room just under the store and only a yard or two away from the street footpath, and got into the store by means of a staircase leading from the underneath room. Constable Carroll has the matter in hand, but so far I have not heard of any clue being found. The affair happening as it did on the night of the old settlers' dinner at the S*tar Hotel in the same street, seems all the more daring, as the night was not likely to be a very favourable one.—(Own Correspondent).
