CAMBRIDGE HARMONIC SOCIETY.

A public meeting was held in the Public Hall, Cambridge, on Thursday evening, to decide whether'or not the business done at the preliminary ir.eeting held a fortnight before should be ratified. There were present:—Mesdames Brennan, Pilcher, Dickenson, Chitty, Marligan and McYeaeh, Misses Wilson, Wells, Nixon and MoVeaqh (2), Messrs Rout, Dixon, Brooks, Simpson, Wilkinson, Lusk, Hooper, J. Fisher, Hurker, Howard, Lanemuir, Hartly and Archdeacon Willis, Apologies lor non-atteudance were received from several ladies and gentlemen. The business done at the previous meeting was all ratified with th e exception of the practice night, which was altered from Tuesday to Thursday. Mr Rout was appointed conductor, Mr Dixon secretary and treasurer, and) these two together with Mesdames Pilcher and Dickinson, Miss M. MeVeagh and Messrs Simpson and Langmuir will form the committee of management. The fees will be : Hon. memLers 10s Gd, entitling to two tickets for each concert. Working members entrance fee 2s Gd ; subscription per mouth, gcntle> men Is, ladies 6d. Ihe gentlemen present wished to do away with the ladies monthly subscription, but the ladies objected to the proposal, and it was not pressed. The practices will be held in the Public Hall, and the first will be on Thursday, March 4th, at 7.30 p.m. Handel's "Samson" will be the first work undertaken. A special chorus platform will he erected at the east end of the Hall, where it will t'otm a kind of gillery for the " Gods " when other entertainments arc being held in the Hall. We believe this society has a prosperous career before it, for it has a most enthusiastic conductor who is better than many parsons, for if his flock do not attend regularly lie looks them up.
