HAMILTON LIBRARY.

A mkkting of the Hamiltoli Library Coniniittee was held lust night in' tlio Borough Council Chambers. Present: His Worship the Mayor, MrDey (in the chair), Messrs Bradley, Castletou, K. Parr, G. Edgecumbe, ])r. Kenny, P. K. Stevens, M. G Farrar, A. Swarbriek, J. A. Young, and R. I<\ Sandes. The Secretary reported that he hail written to Messrs Upton and Co., in compliance with instructions from the committee, and that the books had arrived and were available for selection.

Mr Stevens referred to the proposal to hold a ball on Easter Monday, and suggested that the. Queen's Birthday might be a more suitable date. Mr Bradley moved that the ball be held on Friday, May 21. This was seconded by Mr Parr and catried.

Upon the question of the price of the tickets. Mr Swarbrick suggested that whatever price was fixed a definite proportion upon the sale of eacli ticket should be set aside for the Library, say for instance that if 5s were decided upon as the price '2s (id should go to the funds of the Library. It was resolved, on the proposition of Mr Stevens, that a Ball Committee, consisting of Dr. Kenny, Mr Pair and the mover, be appointed to bring up a report in reference to arranging for the carrying out of the ball. In reference to the new books about to be added to the library, Mr Swarbrick suggested that a uniform cover should be adopted wich a distinctive label, He handed in a volume covered in the way he proposed, and he agreed to undertake the covering of the books himself if the Committee were agreeable. The cost of material was estimated at about a penny per book.

Mr Swarbriek's offer was on the motion of Mr Stevens aud seconded by the Mayor, accepted with thanks. The Committee then proceeded to make a seleeton of the books.
