PIRONGIA ROAD BOARD.

The final meetine 1 of the Pirongia Road Board, held on the 20th ulto., was, as anticipated, wholly devoted to setting its affairs in order, prior to merging in the Raglan County Council. The Board commenced its financial year with £32 163 lid in hand ; since then it has received £3O 12s on account of subsidy, rent, rates and arrears, the receipts thus totaling £63 8s lid. Of this £32 17s 9i has been expended in load work ; £7 10s Gd in timber and pipes, and £9 10s in salary, advertising, audit, office expenses, etc., thus leaving £l3 10s Sd ill cash to be turned over to the County Council. Thirds to the amount of £ll Is Sd are due, and have been applied for, but out of this sum £4 10s is owing on account of work done. The outstanding rates amount to nearly £3O, so that deducting the £4 10s before mentioned, and another, small account not yet mentioned, the Council will directly benefit by the extinction of the Road Hoard to the tune of nearly £SO. As to what indirect benefit will accrue, those who live the longest will see the most. This must 02 said for the Road Board, it has always been worked with the greatest economy. Taking the varying circumstances into consideration, we have better roads than any other district of like staudiug iu Waikato, mainly attained through the ratepayers spending the money they themselves raised. Whether such a position will be maintained in future depends upon the Councillors wo elect to represent us.— (Harapepe Correspondent!.

The Kirikiriroa Road Board invite offers for road work (three contracts).
