The deputation stated that the Government had offered lis per acre for this land, which the natives accepted, hut the Government had broken faith with them by otl'eriug a reduced price. In accordance with hia promise to the deputation, Mr Citdiinm communicated with the Lands Depirtment, and a reply lias been received to the effect that the Government are prepared to pay the original price of (is per acre. The result is that an agreement lias been arrived at with the native land owners to take over ten thousand acres of the Ngarua Block at this figure. The Waitekuuri Block is at present before the Native Lmil Court sitting at Shortland, and it lias been agreed that the Government shall also take over this land at the same price. Botli blocks are well adapted for settlement.
