PIRONGIA.

Wkatiikk.—Tlic changeable weather we an.: now experiencing in far from being favourably appreciated, as coughs, colds, etc., arc us prevalent, or nunc so, than in midwinter. The nights ami morning*. arc very cold ami there have been several slight frosts, not at all conducive to growth in the gardens. Hacks.- -Our Alexandra Racing Club aic now setting to work in earnest in the preliminary work necessary to carry out our annual meeting on Boxing Day. At nne time it seemed tint this year our annual meeting would die out, as. there are. now so few left here to keep it going. This would be a pity, as I believe the Alexandra Club is about the oldest established in the Waikatu District, or at, all events, the first race meetings were held here after the military gymkanas, held at To Awamuui, when that place was the headquarters of the linpeiial troops. There arc only two things wanting to make the next meeting us .successful as heretofore, viz., fine weather, and a small subscription toward* the funds from a few of the large number of persons who regularly attend. As there is no gate money, in a great measure the committee have to depend upon the subsetiptions. Last year's races left the committee in debt, owing to a number ot those who put their name's having forgotten to " ante up." Ic is not too late to do so now.

Although most of us have read his Mercer speech, as reported in Tin: Aui;rs, there are many lure who would like to have it rirn r«r,

so no doubt we shall have a visit from Mr Lung etc long.

I'm out I'av.uknt.—The prompt payment made by Messrs Adams and Co. for the pork consigned to them as referred to in Tut: Aucfs, was a good ildvt. for them and thoroughly deserved. Nor Mr Editor if 'you can only in the next issue of your paper mention a fruit salesman who does business anything like so promptly, you would confer an unestimable favour upon a. great number of your subscribers. Most of us find it is far harder to get the money than grow the fruit. Application has to he made over and over again before a cheque can be obtained from the Auckland agents. Application has to be made in strong terms or no reply is vouchsafed.—(Own ('orrcspondent).
