Tauranga, Last Night A young lady named Margaret Nolan, ag-rd 19, who came from Auckland five months ago, died on Saturday night at Mrs Morton's residence from internal hemorrhage. She had been suffering from la grippe and was getting better, but had a relipse on Wednesday night owing to severe flight, and died as stated. Papaboa, Last Night. The large dwelling house of Mr J. M'cKarroll, J.F., was burnt to the ground on Saturday. The cause of the. fire is unknown. The house was insured in the South British for £ISOO (including the furniture). It is said to be one of the finest north of Auckland. Haweka, Last Night. During a 6torm on Friday, Jeremiah Takene, working on the co-operative works on the Eltham-Waitotara road near the Patea river, was struck by a limb of a tree sud scalped. His mates carried him out eleven miles, but he died on the way. He leaves a wife and four children. Wellington, Last Night. The Cricket Association expresses its willingness to forego the interprovincial fixture with the Austral'au Eleven in favour of the New Zoa'a d match, but it is expected the New Z -aland Cricket Council will adhere to its ilec's'on to have the New Zcalan I ma'ch played at Wellington. The Cabinet has appropriated £2003 for the Mang-iwuka Section of the North Island Trunk Railway ; £2t>oo for the Belgrove - "Wcstport-lleefton Section of the Midland Railway ; £2030 for the Avondale Asylum. Plans have been ordered for the station and buildings on the Otira Gorge Section of the Midland Railway, for wh'ch there ia a vote of £3500 au'homed. The Cabinet has decided to acquire Mr Purvis Russell's 'Woodburn Estate of 27,200 acres, near Waipukurau, on the Napier railway line, under the compu'sory clauses of the Lind for Settlement Act. Mr Tregear, Secretary cf the Labour Department, has had thespecial decoration of Officer D'Academic conferred on him by the French OoveriiTcnt as a mark of appreciation of his scientific work. M. Potoki de Montalk, Professor of Foreign Languag s at the Auckland University, is tlu rtcipie:t of a similar honor. The Government has declined to ncce<"e to the suggestion »o hire a wharf in London at which New Zealand timber could Ue landed. Fielding, Last Night. Carl Pandrop Fowlers shot himself lust nLht in his house. Deceased was a well-to-do settler, aged 40. He was a tingle mm. There was no known cause for the act.
