TE AWAMUTU.
Concert.—The Musical Society's conceit, which took place in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening last, was very successful. There was a very good attendance, many present eoinicg from Paterangi, Kihikilii, and Ohiupo. Before the opening of the performance Mr Grcshatn, »:i behalf of the Society, presented Mr Lcng, the conductor, with a handsome baton. He referred to the able manner in which Mr Long had cauied out the different performances of the Society, more notably the prodttct'on of the " Mikado," some two years ago. He hoped the recipient would ever wield it as ably as lie lias done in the past. Mr Long thanked the Society for their kind present, and said hecou'd expect nothing nicer. The opening part of the performance consisted of songs, dints, and quartette. The first song, which was rendered by Mr De-iville, was immense and was encored. The other gentb men who sang were Messrs -Mai shall, Cavanagh, and Cniiekshank, whose sing-'ng was very attentively listened to. Of the lady's voices tin.se of Mrs Andrew and .Mrs Gresham we-c mostly appreciated. The second part of the programme consisted of " Diehls Operetta,'' etritled " A Dress Rehearsal," perf rmed by the lady members of the Soc'e'y, who all took their parts well, the principal parts being allotted to the Mesdatr.es Andrew, Long, Oresham, and North, and the Misses D.
