Mr Mitchell, the teller, struck a match in the strong room, and a terrific explosion followed. Thick plat-; glasi window on tin ground floor and two front -ges w'yl'. blown to fragments, the blinds totn, the wirdow sisle? broken, and papers, cheques and notes strew.i aro mil in wild eo:.fusion. Mitchell was burned o-j the. fa-c and arms, an I his hair was tinged. The ledgerkecper w.s hurled from his desk into the manager's renin, and a fo.v passers in the streets were slightly cut with the. flying Windows were broken in seveial adjoining 'building?. The explosion was cause Iby a leak in a gaspipe. The room caught lire, but it was spcxlily extinguished.
