POLITICAL NOTES.
(bv ruLUGHAi'ir. —si'iWiAncoiatE-jroSDBN' I ) Wellington, Last Night.
THE LOAN BILL. It is understood today that the Legislative Council will not persist in its Opposition to tho Loan Hill, and that the Government by way of compromise will furnish detailed information as to tho spending of the loan money, which is expected to disarm tho opposition to the Dill. Even supposing that the Hill should be " laid aside " to-morrow, it is quite on the cards that the Premier would li id sonic means of bunging it down again probably by reducing the loan to half a million, which, of course, would practically mean introducing a new Bill. It is considered also in some quarters that if the Council rejects thy Loan Bill an immediate disolution of Par'iauicnt might follow with another session about January next. TUB RANKING INQUIRY.
It ; s expected that the report of the Legislative Council on the Banking Enquiry will be laid before the Council to-morrow, and this may tend to curtail the very protracted enquiry that is still being held by a committee of the House of Representatives. THE PUBLIC TRUSTEE.
I understand that Mr J. C. Martin, Stipendiary Magistrate of Wellington, has accepted the position of Public Trustee, and Mr llaselden, solicitor, is mentioned as a likely successor of Mr Mar'in.
