THAMES-TE AROHA RAILWAY.

(by telegraph.—own correspondent). Wellington, Last Night. A deputation, consisting of Messrs Me Gowan, W. Kelly, Houston,. ITeke. Lang, Orowther, Harris, Lawry, Buick, Me Lachlan and Hon. T. Thompson, waited on Hon. Hall-Jones, Minister for Public "Works, in reference to carrying to some payable point the completion of the Thames-Te Aroha Railway. Mr Me Gowan said only a few . miles were now required between Paeroa and Hikutaia to complete the line from Auckland to the Thames, and also Rotorua. Eventually this extension would form part of the East Coastline just as the Waikato railway does for the ■ W r est Coast. The Minister recognised the great progress of the district in the last two years. He hoped the deputation would acknowledge that the Government were doing all possible under the circumstances, and he believed they would find provision made for the work in the Public Works Statement.
