LATE NEWS Wind Changes - Other Quarters Threatened

"This morning (Tuesday February 11) a strong wind was blowing from a westerly direction having changed completely round and the fire was threatening properties which were previously in danger. Households along the Pipiriki and Amuku roads became greatly alarmed and at 9 o'clock took steps to remove or bury their valuables.

Meanwhile a howling wind blew the fires over its track of Sunday and Monday and Father Maillard's cottage was again surrounded. A great many residents were quickly on the scene but, beyond removing the furniture, nothing more could be done on account of the dense smoke and great heat of the fires which were only a few yards away. In fact it was found impossible to stay any longer near the' place... the building was expected to catch fire any moment."
