Sledge #II
To reassure the public of my husband's attitudes to life in general and to women in particular, I would like to disclaim any connection between the said 'Sledge' of Waiouru and John 'Sledge' Fraser of Ohakune. It would in fact, stretch the limits of my imagination to conceive of any woman admitting a claim on such a poor specimen of a man. It is apparent that 'Sledge', regardless of his present height, suffers from an excess of "small man's disease". I can but speculate that, at a crucial stage in his youth, the
small and hapless 'Sledge' was set upon by older or larger girls who, perceiving his character flaws, took advantage of his lack of stature in their abuse of him. As for earning the heading 'very brave man', the poor fellow, besides projecting his early distorted view of girls onto womankind, clearly remains in abject fear of them. This would explain his unwillingness to publish his real name and his resultant hiding behind a name that another man is known by.
Mrs
J.
Fraser.
