WORSE-OFF WATER USERS

The Bulletin received a press release last month about this year's 40 hour famine, telling us that World Vision has chosen as its theme the need for clean, healthy water. Perhaps Ohakune residents should fast to raise funds to pay for their own clean, healthy water!? Seriously though, the fund raising event scheduled for March 17-19 will set out to rasie funds for providing potable water for some of the 1500 million people around the world who are forced to drink water that causes disease and death. World Vision estimates that 80 per cent of all illness in the developing world is due to water associated infection. (At least Ohakune water users only need to worry about the odd tummy bug and clothes coming out of the wash darker than when they went in!.)
