Upgrade for works depot
A loan is to be raised by the Waimarino District Council for an amenities block in Raetihi for works staff. The money to be raised, $50,000, will be used to pay for the moving of an exRaetihi Borough Council depot building to the council's Parapara Highway site and the upgrading of an existing building at the site. The cost of moving the depot building is estimated to be $16,000 and the
upgrading of the other building is estimated at $34,000. Once upgraded the on-site building will be used as an amenities block for council works staff and the other building used for storage of vehicles and equipment. District Manager John Murrihy told the Bulletin that the council was eligible to apply for a $30,000 contribution from the govemment for the work as part of the last Waimarino amalgamation. He said however, that the council could
not work on the assumption that it would get the money so was apply ing to raise a loan for the full $50,000. Mr Murrihy said while the council is applying to raise a $50,000 loan it may not need to borrow that much because the council may either be granted the government contribution or use other money already available. Applying for the loan would ensure greater financial flexibility for the project, said Mr Murrihy.
