WOMAN SCALDED IN KETETAHI HOT POOL

A lack of cold water exacerbated the injuries suffered by a tramper scalded at the Ketetahi hot springs during the Christmas break. Aucklander Philipa Buckton, 25, was on a day trip to Ketetahi thermal area when her foot slipped into a small pool near the major hot water source. She was scalded from the ankle to the knee in the incident and helped down to the Ketetahi car park by the party she was with and picked up by helicopter. The trip down the mountain took over two hours which delayed treatment.
