Weeds need spraying
The Rangitikei District Noxious Plants Authority has decided to get tough on farmcrs who have not met formal demands that roadside weeds need to be sprayed now. About 80 per cent of landowners have complied with notices to act immediately but a minority continues to hold out. Those people
will be prosecuted according to Rangitikei District Noxious Plants Authority Secretary, Walter Elgar. Mr Elgar says the same trouble is experienced every year and his Authority often wonders why land owners can't just make a diary note rather than play games and risk prosecution. "My Authority will
prosecute and land owners are simply incurring extra costs by being awkward. "On the other hand if Farmers experience genuine problems with clearing weeds from roadsides they should contact a Noxious Plants Officer at the County. They are always ready to help where possible."
