TELEPHONE HITCH

On the subject of unconventional, have you ever seen a hitch hiker with a car phone? Ruapehu Publisher John Woods, in unconventional style, decided the easiest and quickest way to get from Taupo to Ohakune when stuck without the use of his car was to hitch. He says despite there being 20 or so hitch hikers on the road out of T aupo, he managed to get a ride quickly. Seems he was the best dressed in the line up! He did have to wait for a while at one stage but managed to avoid using his car phone (which he was carrying in his day-pack) to call up a ride from the Bulletin Office!
