High flyers trash park says DoC

The same people who would seem to value the isolation of parts of the Kaimanawa Forest Park are trashing the place, according to Department o f Conservation officers. DoC staff recently made an inspection tour of the southern area of the park and found amounts of rubbish and damage that they say was disgusting. According to the officers it is obvious that the people leaving the rubbish and cutting live vegetation (to build permanent camp sites) are hunters and anglers flown into the areas by helicopter. Most users pay lots of money to get to the

areas, presumably to enjoy the natural state of such areas, yet aren't responsible enough to remove rubbish and stick to the normal minimum imDact considerations,

say DoC officers. DoC hopes for the co-operation of helicopter operators in educating users and intends to increase the number of inspections of the areas.
