Sections of the Waikune Prison social hall have been loaded onto trailers, ready to be transported a nearby prison. Because the removal of the hall had already commenced the Justice Department and the Whanganui River Maori Trust Board agreed it should continue. Meanwhile the removal of the rest of the prison buildings has been stopped by an interim order until and injunction is heard, sometime between December 5 and December 23. The trust has applied for an injunction partly on the grounds that the prison land ownership question is to be heard by the Waitangi Tribunal.
