No more free trees
There are to be no more free trees given to new Ohakune dwellings from the District Council.
At the last Works and Reserves Committee meeting a recommendation to rescind the motion covering the donation
of trees was made. This reccomendation was accepted by the full counil The motion was "that for every full
200 square metres of land upon which a new dwelling has been erected and is intended to be occupied by that owner, one tree shall be given. The maximum number of trees for any plot shall be Turn page 2

Thompson said o n past experience h e didn't believe it was warranted. He said the Ohakune Borough Council found that the trees weren't claimed, staff often dropped the trees at new sites, then had to return to plant them. He said the trees were often then dug up and taken away. Cr Thompson said he would prefer to see the
money spent on reserves. He moved that the scheme be discontinued, which was carried.
