ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY DONATION TO BE CONSIDERED BY COUNCIL
A donation to the Waimarino Acclimatisation Society is to be discussed at the next Waimarino finance and administration committee meeting. The council referred the matter to the committee last week after learning that the council had no power to remit rates for the society. The society had earlier asked for a rates remission as its total income was being spent to pay the rates on the property it owns. Mayor Workman suggested the matter be referred back to the committee because of the good work the group does in the area, particularly involving wildlife and trout fishing. He has earlier said the group do a lot to help the tourist industrv throueh their efforts.
